Longboat Key Tour FAQs

Do you have to be an experienced kayaker?

No, but due to the possibility of strong currents we recommend this tour for stronger paddlers with some kayaking experience.

What areas does the Longboat Key Tour explore?

This tour travels to the Two Sister Keys just east of Longboat Key. These 67-acre islands are home to a variety of birds, native Floridian plants and about 20 protected gopher tortoises. The shallow grass flats and deeper bay waters are a fisherman’s dream to view Redfish, Speckled Trout, Snook, Sheepshead and much more.

What is the dining atmosphere and food like at the Mar Vista restaurant?

Mar Vista is an old Florida-style restaurant and is considered one of the oldest surviving structures on Longboat Key. Here you can enjoy a delicious meal inside the quaint dining room or on the outdoor deck overlooking Sarasota Bay.

Can I use the Mar Vista discount immediately after the tour?

Yes. Mar Vista’s outdoor dining is a delicious treat after your kayaking tour. But if you decide to wait, you can use the 20% discount up to one month after completion of your tour.

What is the cost of the Longboat Key Tour?

The cost of this tour is $55 per person. It can be paid by cash, check (including out-of-state checks), or credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover) at the day of your tour. The only additional cost would be a tip for your tour guide if you so desire.

Where do we meet?

The Longboat Key Tour meets in the parking lot of the Mar Vista restaurant on the north end of Longboat Key. MapQuest directions can be found on the Directions link.

How long is the Longboat Key Tour?

This tour takes 2.5 to 3 hours, including paddling instructions and launch time.

What should I bring?

We highly recommend bringing a bottle of water and items that you would normally have while you are out in the sun (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses). Cameras are okay, but we suggest putting them in a zipped plastic bag.

What should I wear?

Most people wear t-shirts, shorts and/or bathing suits. During the winter months we suggest a light wind breaker or a sweat shirt depending on the temperature and the wind conditions. The most important thing is to be comfortable. As for shoes, wear something that you don’t mind getting wet - flip flops, aqua shoes, Tivas, or old sneakers are ideal.

Is the Longboat Key Tour for me?

This tour is ideal for intermediate kayakers interested in combining two great activities…great kayaking and great food.
