Do you have to be an expert kayaker for the Longboat Key Tour?
No, but due to the possibility of strong currents we recommend this tour for paddlers with some kayaking experience.
What areas does the Longboat Key Tour explore?
This tour travels just east of Longboat Key. These 67-acre islands are home to a variety of birds, native Floridian plants and about 20 protected gopher tortoises. The shallow grass flats and deeper bay waters have an abundance of fish, including Redfish, Speckled Trout, Snook, Sheepshead and much more.
What should I bring?
We highly recommend bringing a bottle of water and items that you would normally have while you are in the sun (sunscreen, hat, sunglasses). Cameras are okay, but we suggest putting them in a zipped plastic bag if they are not waterproof.
What should I wear?
Most people wear t-shirts, shorts and/or bathing suits. During the winter months we suggest a light wind breaker or a sweat shirt depending on the temperature and the wind conditions. The most important thing is to be comfortable. As for shoes, wear something that you don’t mind getting wet - flip flops, water shoes, or old sneakers are ideal.
Longboat Key, Florida is located south of Anna Maria Island and north of Lido Key and Sarasota.
